Working like a dog
The London Office welcomed a new recruit to the work force last week - Daisy the dog! Joining the design team on a freelance basis for the day she was able to teach the team a few new tricks and find some new leads on some challenging design tasks.

The day did take it's toll, the whole day left the poor canine feeling dog tired. All at the London studio thank her for all the help, the dog biscuits are in the post!

Welcome to the Sterling world of design opportunities
Sterling Design has recruited Julian Abel (below left) and John Kennedy to pursue new business opportunities for our studios in London, Kettering and Edinburgh (opening soon).

Despite the economic gloom we know that UK companies have a real need for creative design and intelligent marketing solutions and Julian and John will be in touch to let them know how Sterling Design can help.
Julian normally opts for a succinct response when someone asks where he's from, especially at networking events! His friends affectionately call him a mongrel but he, of course, would refer to himself as a citizen of the world!
Having been born in Paris and raised in London and New York, he is used to the city life, which is why he escapes to the countryside every chance he gets.
Julian has joined the Sterling London team as Business Development Manager, he brings with him a wealth of experience developing business for leading design consultancies and looks forward to creating exciting opportunities for Sterling.
John has worked as a Senior Account Manager for the last 6 years in marketing promotions. 'I'm keen to move into my new role as a Business Development Manager at Sterling London, developing new business and working as a part of the team both here in London and in Kettering,' he says.
'I've a real passion for travel, food markets, fine wine and the great outdoors. I've recently been to Egypt, Dahab windsurfing and can definitely recommend it as a holiday destination, not only for the weather but also for the currency!'

Richard Balding is in South Africa following the Lions tour
Here's the story so far...
20 June
Well first test has been and gone with a loss for the Lions. Had to watch with 1000 boks and 10 Lions supporters at Boktown in Joburg. Still, plenty of beer to drown my sorrows in! Tomorrrow we are going to a game park to see some animals and have a few bush beers. Looking forward to game in Cape Town. Rich
22 June
Went to game park yesterday to see a different kind of lion. Then onto a bush bar for a few beers. Later we had bbq. Over here it's called a braai. It was bring a bottle so I guess you'd call it a 'bring a braai'. Fly to Cape Town in the morning. Will write soon. Rich.
June 24
15 all draw against emerging boks last night in Cape Town. Great atmosphere at stadium and bars after match. Loads of red shirts, lion costumes and pith helmets! If it stops raining we are going up Table Mountain later then flying back to Joburg tonight.

Three Lions and Richard
June 26Weather in Cape Town was very British! Chapmans Drive around the coast closed due to rock falls. Table Mountain closed due to high wind. Back in Joburg today, played golf at Blair Atholl, v exclusive club which hosted the Lions welcome party. Went around in 109, but came out with a draw like the Lions. Talking of Lions, the score was 13 each, not 15! My mistake! Blame it on the beer! So much sand on the golf course I thought I was in the desert! Back to rugby, the media coverage here is so biased, wondering what you see back in the UK? Front row weakness in first test; miss Murray from Saints. Tuesday's game could have gone either way. All Welsh front row may do better and Shaw may make an impact? Feeling the pressure from the boks, but still waving the Lions flag! Tomorrow brings another braai and yet more beer and wine. God knows what my livers thinks... Rich
June 28We could have done it! What a great atmosphere at the ground. So many Lions fans. A great welcome from the bok fans. Game was very exciting, unfortunately we didn't win. Now I have to wear a bok beany hat and grow chops until the last test next Saturday. They want video via skype as proof!
Fly home tonight, great people, great country!

Sterling and Dreamflight
Sterling Silverbacks are playing cricket against Weatherbys at 6.00pm on 1st July at Rushton Cricket Club. It is a 20/20 match in aid of Dreamflight.
Also on Sunday 14th June Joe Hunt, Neil Mellows, Jay Worsfold and John 'Sven' Wearmouth endured the elements to take part in a 11 mile practice hike across the Derbyshire Dales. The mild stroll took approximately 4 hours. Neil Mellows showed his experience of the country side by bringing his plastic banana carrier, which match EU regulations - not too much of a bend!! Jay took point for most of the day and help slip stream for the rest of the team. This was a practice for the up and coming 3 Peaks Challenge on 17th July also in aid of Dreamflight.

Hello Scotland - Sterling open their Edinburgh studio!
On Monday 22 June, Melanie Gladstone, Sterling's new account manager for Scotland, took the keys to our new office and studio in Albany Street. Based in the heart of Edinburgh the studio now makes Sterling design, print and creative services even more accessible to all our Scottish clients. The addition of Albany Street to Sterling's expanding business means that we now have a creative studio in THREE locations: Edinburgh, Kettering and London.

The new studio is on the top floor of one of Edinburgh's fine Georgian townhouses with views over the whole of the city and out to Fife. If you would like to pop in to meet Melanie over a coffee or to discuss what we can do for you (or even just to look at the view!) please don't hesitate to get in touch.
